Why can&#8217;t I find someone reliable?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 But maybe,<br>\u2192 Just maybe<br>\u2192 It&#8217;s you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay with me now. It&#8217;s not JUST you. But you have a roll to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 And you&#8217;ve got way<br>\u2192 More influence<br>\u2192 Then you think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But only if you develop this one, key management skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 It comes from<br>\u2192 Andy Grove<br>\u2192 Of Intel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This transformed my leadership and the 100s I&#8217;ve coached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 You must adapt your style<br>\u2192 Of management based on your<br>\u2192 Colleague&#8217;s Task-Relevant-Maturity(TRM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay with me even if think you know this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 Basically, it means we should<br>\u2192 Adjust our approach based on how<br>\u2192 Experienced someone is at THE TASK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOT how experienced the PERSON is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192 So someone with 2 years experience<br>\u2192 Who has done something<br>\u2192 100 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is more mature than:<br>\u21b3 Someone with 20 years experience<br>\u21b3 Who has done something<br>\u21b3 10 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The above is worth repeating to yourself because in practice it can feel weird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think of TRM level as:<br>\u21b3 How close is someone to being able to do something<br>\u21b3 On their own, with no guidance, flawlessly<br>\u21b3 Even with a little ambiguity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So your management approach has to flex to match a person&#8217;s TRM level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means:<br>\u21b3 High TRM level = Delegate as usual<br>\u21b3 Med TRM level = Hands-on check-ins early\/often<br>\u21b3 Low TRM level = You are teaching\/mentoring<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you learn to do this you will<br>\u21b3 Reduce disappointment<br>\u21b3 Develop your team<br>\u21b3 Win more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever tried managing based on TRM?
